It’s a pretty busy week and there is a lot on the horizon. Not only does the Almanac of Rap launch on August 1st but I also have a new show premiering on East Village Radio!
The show is called Too Much Rap and it airs every 2nd and 4th Wednesday from 10am - 12pm. You can tune in at EastVillageRadio.com and if you’re in the neighborhood feel free to drop by and say hi!
It’s a show that I was doing before the pandemic and the format is basically the same as this newsletter. I play a bunch of rap or rap related songs and sometimes there is just too much rap so I delve into other genres.
I’m really excited to bring this show back and taking it to the iconic East Village Radio feels like a dream. I am also just now realizing that I have the Almanac of Rap and Too Much Rap and thinking about how close the names are to one another.
My bad, I guess you could say that I’m Bad With Names (which is another podcast that I used to do before any of this other stuff)

And as usual I’ll probably be on Twitch from 2-4pm every Wednesday.
NEWS
Uh… I think the only real headline is that Big Sean’s album leaked and honestly nobody really cares because the bigger headline is that Kamala Harris is running for president against Donald Trump. A minor headline within that story is that Amber Rose went to the RNC and made her MAGA debut.
I also found out about PragerU which is basically a right wing incubator focused on young talent and media influencers. I *think* they are responsible for Candace Owens and they are grooming a crop of new young conservatives as we speak. Which makes me think about Akadademiks, Joe Budden, Charlamagne The God and anyone else who has sat down with that woman. (Remember when Charlamagne was hanging out with Tomi Lahren?)
The thought hasn’t fully crystalized but the biggest, loudest voices in hip hop media are just kinda trash and it’s pretty sad. Maybe they getting PragerU bags? Maybe that’s just how they really feel anyway? Who knows. It all just kinda sucks. Unplug the internet and reset it please.
That’s about it. Or maybe not? I dunno to be honest but here’s some music.
VIDEOS
Donald Glover been on his Jordan Peele for a minute and I’m not mad at it.
I am honestly still getting into Sampha but I do like most of the stuff that I hear. This is a cool performance.
I feel like I have heard of Samara Cyn before but I can’t remember hearing any music. With that said this video is pretty dope.
ALBUMS
I played it like twice. One of the times was on a road trip. I enjoyed most of it. I am excited to see the movie.
I didn’t play any of this album yet but Denzel Curry be RAPPING so it’s probably dope. He also got some legends on here.
First off I am a fan of Blxst. With that said twenty songs is a lot of songs when most of your songs sound like one song. And with THAT said I haven’t played it yet.
I played some songs off of this and it’s high quality rap shit. Jake and Free wasn’t gonna let us down tho.
I haven’t heard this album yet either but BLK ODYSSY makes some pretty cool music.
The homies done linked up and made an album. Once again I haven’t got to listen to it. It’s been a long week.
Apparently MadeinTYO produced this project for Ransom and I’m really curious to see how it sounds. It looks like something I’d be interested in.
SINGLES
I met Wolfgang on tour with GUTS and he’s a super cool dude who makes really dope music.
I’m glad Mez is popping up with more music/features as of late.
Hey look. More Sampha and this time Little Simz is with him.
I don’t know who Sally Green is but the algorithm decided that I’d like this song and you know what, it was right.
ADDENDUM
Nothing. I’ve got nothig. How yall doing? Talk to me.
uh, I'm ok I guess, but I nearly broke both my ankles in two different incidents within 5 days last week and yesterday I found out I have shingles (I'm in my 30s...). so I'm also not great lol
enjoying the new Common, Hiatus Kaiyote, Lupe, and Tiron & Ayomari albums very, very much.
Yo, thank you for mentioning that new Jake One and Freeway, because I had no idea that it was coming! The Brent Rollins packaging for the CD version of the first album was fuckin' bananas.
