New Music Tuesday #70
Butcher Brown, Ari Lennox, Fresh Daily and Neil Drumming
I think me making Youtube videos is a sort of inevitability at this point. The only thing really stopping me is that I don’t want to shoot the video footage on my phone. Also editing videos seems like a tall task for a man who having trouble hurdling his daily to do list.
I watch a lot of musicians who make youtube videos of them making music or doing video essays and when they talk about how long the videos take to edit it seems kinda crazy me.
But then again I love doing crazy stuff so we’ll see because I’ve got some ideas. So that’s that for Youtube shows. As far as live shows go there are non this week butt starting next week i’ve got you covered! (*)

NEWS
Cleo Sol played three sold out shows at Radio City Music Hall. I did not go but it appears that everyone I follow on Instagram did. Will Smith dropped an album that feels like a soundtrack for a movie that doesn’t exist. Timbaland dropped an afrobeats album with a video that I believe to be AI. Drake dropped a video for Nokia and while that song deserves a better video seeing the visual actually made me like the song more. Kanye did an interview with DJ Akademiks while wearing a black KKK robe. He also wore a Sean John shirt, a white lives matter shirt and a diamond encrusted Nazi pendant.
I wish I was making that last part up.
VIDEOS
Fresh Daily has been on a real tear. His album drops on 5/9 and you can pre-order it here. It’s really good seeing my guy LIVING.
Omar is dropping an album soon as well and the first single is JAMMING. I randomly saw him walking around filming parts of this so it’s fun to see the final product.
I was looking for a Chaka Khan song on Youtube and found this video. I have no idea what is happening here but I do know that Chaka Khan elevated what was already an oddly interesting song.
Okay. Not gonna even hold you, I like this song. Orlando Brown is one of those people who is refuses to be taken seriously and his antics don’t seem to hurt anyone so i’ll tolerate him being bizarre. He’s like a more zany Ray J.
I feel like this song happened because he sang the hook during an interview and someone from the internet put some chords behind it and he saw it and was like ‘okay, let’s just make this a real song’
ALBUMS
Literally just found out this was a whole album and not a single song so I can’t say that I’ve actually heard this album but I can say that it’s Butcher Brown and you can not lose when they drop.
Neil Drumming dropped his album early on Bandcamp. The project features Nappy Nina, Breeze Brewin, Dr. Oop, DJ Kaleem and me. Neil produced the whole thing too. It’s a very personal album and I spent my verse rapping about losing friends and being scared of losing my hair.
D’Leau (1/2 of J*Davey) dropped an edit pack that is sure to juice up any Serato crate. You can cop it here
I recently discovered that Daru Jones, MonoNeon and Bumpy Knuckles did a project full of 1 minute songs and it is a pretty fun listen.
J-Live dropped a cool three pack with the instrumentals included.
I heard the song featuring Grand Puba and it was pretty good.
9th produced a mixtape for Reuben Vincent and you can listen to it Soundcloud.
SONGS
Homeboy Sandman got a new album coming in April. He stay working!
Blu got a new album coming in April. He stay working too!
Little Simz dropped a jam and I’ve played it several times already. It’s a jam.
He might hop online and kick the hornets nest every now and then but if it’s one thing Jermaine Dupri gone do, he gonna make a jam.
When this beat started the last thing I was expecting to hear was YG rapping about being molested. Is it weird to say that this is a jam? I really dig the beat/hook.
Johaz got a joint with Elzhi.
I just got put on to Malaya thanks to Theo Croker and then realized that she was on that Snoop Dogg Algorithm album. It was a pretty good album as far as new artists go. Snoop is a great A&R.
In related news Celui-ci means ‘this’ in french and Celui-la measn ‘that’. Duolingo baby!
BONUS
I’ll might drop some new music on Bandcamp this Friday. The songs are mastered and I just need cover art. I’ve been sitting on them for so long that I’m just kinda getting antsy to release them. I just don’t want to do them a disservice by rushing to share them you know? We shall see.
There is no bonus this week. I’m sorry. Wait maybe the bonus is you. Drop a comment and tell me how your week is going or how last week went. Anything you’re looking forward to this week? Did anything cool happen last week?
*Unless you count a colonoscopy as a show. I mean, technically there are cameras involved. I wonder if I can get it listed on my iMDB? Did you also see that I put an extra T on the word ‘but’ to make this footnote even dumber? lol…
Love the Omar cut, appreciate the work you're doing with the recommendations, i have an 8 week old baby and chanced on your substack . Am moving to New York in two weeks and will definitely pass by Dick and Jane's plus my wife watches Survival of the Thickest.
Ah, this Omar is good-thank you. Had no clue about this. Also, Yukimi (Little Dragon) just put out a solid album.
