It’s the first New Music Tuesday of of 2025 and right out the gate I’ve got to say that this week has felt pretty weird. It’s been like a bunch of Fridays and Wednesdays strung together until actual actual Friday which finally felt like Monday.
Whatever tho, Happy New Year!

Jan 18 - I’ll be DJing at La Noxe in Manhattan. I’m pretty sure it’s free with RSVP but check back next week for more concrete deets.

NEWS
Hm. Let’s see…
Elliott Wilson popped big shit about Cam and Mase’s sports show (you guys did know that Cam and Mase have a sports podcast right? ) and then quickly walked the comments back once he sobered up. I’m just assuming he was a sauced)
Lil Baby dropped an album. I didn’t follow the whole Young Thug trial or the subsequent saga of the temperature changing on Gunna but I think this album is kinda mixed up in that whole thing. I could be wrong!
Yasiin Bey and The Alchemist are teaming up to form a group called Forensics. The first thing they’ve got planned is a show in Paris and while Yasiin seems to be very averse to streaming Alchemist got his own machine so I am interested to see how this is actually is released. I low key feel like you will have to see it live to hear it and maybe vinyl or direct to consumer MP3s but no streaming.
VIDEOS
Doechii kicked the hinges off of the year with her music video for Denial is a River. The little vignettes she had leading up to this joint were super fun and I really wish there were more.
Drake is still stress testing music release methods and leaked this video of himself rapping a few verses presumably aimed at Lebron for un’BFFing him. Conductor Williams on the beat.
It looks like Joey Badass got a Conductor Williams for Christmas too and he decided to use it to take a semi-vague jab at the west coast by borrowing a Jay Z bar. He then gave fan theorists even more fodder by doing a version of the dance Kenny did when he was dissing Drake.
But regardless Conductor Williams is having a banner 2025 and the year hasn’t even really started yet.
I swear I miss the simplicity of old school rap beefs where it was just like ‘that’s why i fucked yo bitch’ or ‘tae bo hoe’. I also wish ppl exerted this much effort to decode and interpret regular ass songs. Defund the beef economy!
DJ Premier opened his booth back up and let Loaded Lux get loose. This is great. Meat and potatoes rap shit.
ALBUMS
Warryn Campbell produced this DMX gospel album and it’s more X just doing prayers with a few guests giving testimony of sorts. I do not love post humous albums in general but t’s honestly not bad.
R.A.P Ferreira put out a new album and it is good. All of his stuff is good tho so you can’t go wrong here.
Rob Cave put out a self produced album and it is good. All of his stuff is good tho.
Rob’s catalog is so consistent. I need yall to rally around this album for real. Go back through his bandcamp and cop something. Trust me. He BEEN nice.
Che Grand put out a remix project and it is dope. All of his stuff is good tho and if you missed it he just dropped an album that I’m featured on.
John Robinson dropped a bandcamp only joint that you can’t preview which is a fucking vibe. Just buy it. We need more friction in our listening to make the experience memorable.
Rob Markman dropped an album on his birthday just to remind those of you who’s memories may have lapsed that he is nice on the mic.
1-O.A.K. took some time off from producing Switched On Pop to produce this whole project and is even featured on a few songs.
SINGLES
Black Milk and Fat Ray hooked up for a song called Elderberry that is currently only available on Instagam
Ilajide dropped this absolute BANGER.
Droog is rapping really well as usual.
Alchemist is being as quirky as ever. I love this beat so much.
Little Simz is dropping poof of life raps.
Freddie Gibbs is rapping really well and singing really fun hooks. (i am PRETTY sure that’s him doing the hook)
Che Noir is rapping really well as usual.
Hit-Boy is paying homage to his OGs
BONUS
I was digging through some old hard drives and found a song that features Tanya Morgan, Oddisee, Kev Brown and Kenn Star with production by Khrysis. Sadly I can’t post it here BUT I’ll be playing it on the radio show this Wednesday so tune in!
I really did want to post it but I don’t think I have proper clearances to distribute that joint but a radio show is okay.
Also shout out to everyone who tuned in to the A Buteau-ful Mind on Netflix. It was so cool hearing the music synced to the picture and seeing what they did in the edit bay. If you haven’t seen it yet please go check it out and if you have feel free to watch it again or just let it play in the background while you are doing something haha.
