2024 gave us a guided meditation album by Lil Jon, a jazz album by Juicy J, a blues album by Lil Boosie, a psych-rock album by Lil Yachty and a flute album by Andre 3000. Talk about unpredictable! That’s borderline chaotic.
With that said I will not be attempting to do a recap however I will let you know what the most recent releases are.
SHOWS
Jan 6 - Frankenstein’s Baby at Union Hall - TIX
Jan 9 - Overnight Success at Parkside Lounge - TIX
Jan 15, 16, 21, 22 - Michelle Buteau at the Bell House.
And speaking of Michelle her special A Buteau-ful Mind finally dropped on Netflix and I not only did the music for the opening and end credits but I also am featured on screen. I can’t say how much or little of me is on screen because I haven’t seen it yet but you guys should stream it because it’s funny and high numbers mean more cool things from cool people!
Too Much Rap is up now over at Mixcloud and it’s a good one. I played a bunch of new music. You should trust me by now that it’s a dope listen but should you need a tracklist it’s at the link.
NEWS
Beyonce popped up at the Texans vs Ravens Christmas Day game for a halftime performance that has been dubbed as the Beyonce Bowl.
In BIG 3 news: J. Cole sold $1 tickets to his Dollar and a Dream show at MSG. Kendrick and SZA are heading out on tour next year. Drake was on stream with Adin Ross.
Ice Spice is back. Cleo Soul sold out three nights at Radio City Music Hall.
Also Spotify has been making music to put in it’s playlists and box out smaller artists. Ted Gioia can explain it way better than I can so I’m linking his article about it.
VIDEOS
Remember when I said I wouldn’t try to sum up the year? It’s because Skillz got back on the horse and did a 2024 Rap Up. So if you need a recap he’s got you covered.
Rhythm Roulette is back! This is the second episode, they did one with Timbaland last week and it was a pretty polarizing episode.
Doechii has something planned for January 2nd. She dropped this trailer and there are two mini episodes on her Youtube page. (Fun Fact: She started out as a Youtuber and if you go to her page you can see her whole journey. Fascinating!)
Jack Harlow popped back up with a loosie on Youtube.
Blu and Exile dropped a video for this joint and it really captures the vibe of the song.
Tyler dropped a loosie over peekaboo from Kendrick’s GNX.
I’m a sucker for the Watermelon man loop and this joint is just flat out fun.
ALBUMS
SZA tagged a whole other album onto the front of her last album which makes it a double album. I can’t figure out wether to call it LANA or SOS Deluxe but either way it’s a very good listen.
Redman finally dropped Muddy Waters Too and it’s a really solid album. My guy Theory Hazit got a few beats on there too!
Vic Spencer been having a banner year and he keeps piling on the heat with this joint.
Tommy Mischman compiled the songs he’s been dropping into an ep and added a few more.
I haven’t heard this project yet but MadeinTYO’s ear for beats is insane. Based on a skims alone this project got some heat on it.
Sonnyjim is good for putting out a solid project. I haven’t heard this joint but I’m earmarking it for a listen later.
My man 2-Tone Jones flipped a few of the new LL Cool J songs to make a cool lil ep.
A video for Paten Locke’s song Saturdaynitelive just dropped and it made me wonder if i ever posted the album so instead of posting that video here is a link to the album.
It felt so good to see Fat Jon’s name pop up on my radar. A Cincinnati legend!
