Today is the big day! Is it a birthday? An anniversary? Whatever it is it’s been a full year of it. Can you feel the excitement in the air? Oh wait, maybe that’s actually just the election…

On November 9th I’ll be spinning at BierWax for something I have hastily called ‘Saturday Night Vibe’ and I’m hoping that some of you can make it out. It’s a free event and I’ll be playing all vinyl.
1 YEAR OF NMT
I signed up for Substack at the height of the pandemic. I think I was debating between starting a Substack and actually using my Patreon page. I was also debating between using Twitch and Mixcloud Live all while figuring out if Clubhouse was worth my time. Not to mention Discord, you gotta have a Discord!
We are in digital hell.
After surviving the pandemic induced streaming renaissance I decided to make a decision and actually use my Substack and I haven’t looked back since. So what does the future look like you ask…
Moving forward I’ll be adding two more monthly posts for paid subscribers. That may not sound like a lot but it is! I used to do two a week over it was WORK. This won’t interrupt the New Music Tuesday newsletter because I really think it should be free based on it’s utility alone. I do it to keep track of stuff that I’m interested in and I find it pretty helpful since music moves so fast.

Quincy Jones died at 91. Ari Lennox wants off of Interscope. A new Mobb Deep album is coming. Megan released a documentary on Hulu. There was a Hot Boyz reunion at the Lil Weezyana Festival. Young Thug is a free man after a trial that lasted almost 2 years. Lil Durk arrested for murder-for-hire charges.
In other news after my blink-and-you-might-have-missed-it encouragement to vote for Kamala Harris last week I got a pretty aggressive email from a pro-Trump reader. This was slightly confusing cus I don’t think I’ve ever been vague about my political leanings but it made me realize that I should probably just double down and be more clear about it, especially on a day like today.
I genuinely don’t think I have the power to push a non-committed voter towards voting for Harris. Regardless of that I need people to understand that while no candidate is perfect, having someone in office who we can at least push to be better is important. The person who wins will also end up setting up things that will be in place after their term ends (SUPREME COURT JUSTICE SEATS) and the ramifications are just far too great to be a one issue voter in a very complicated election.
So please, go vote for Kamala Harris and do NOT email me in defense of Trump.

Lexa Gates dropped this really cool music video. I have this creeping suspicion that she’s gonna leave rap alone within 5-10 years but the album is pretty solid.
This cool mini documentary of Madlib in Brazil digging for records and making beats with J Rocc, Cut Chemist and DJ Babu popped up in my feed and I felt like it was worth sharing. I wonder if any of these joints found there way onto Madlib’s Medicine Show.

Thurz dropped his long awaited solo album.
Gibbs dropped a surprise Halloween album. Somebody said it’s a companion piece to You Only Live 2wice which makes sense based on title alone.
A new Tuxedo album FULL of slappers.
Flying Lotus dropped a cool lil set of songs and instrumentals. I haven’t got to listen to it yet.
Westside Gunn dropped not one…
But TWO albums. I have not listened to either one.
IDK has been consistently dropping for a while now and here is another one. Guess what, I haven’t listened to this either.
Okay finally something that I heard.. err well at least one song of. They were recently on Breakfast Club talking about how the Pharrell feature on the lead single used to be a Neptunes feature before this lawsuit… SAD.
I did listened to this and I enjoyed it.
I did not get to listen to this yet but shout out my guy August Fanon.
