One more week until the ole one year anniversary of this thing and I am typing that here to remind myself to plan something special for it haha.
SHOWS
Frankenstein’s Baby is back on November 4th at Union Hall. Aparna Nancherla will be the guest host. It’s almost like one of those cross over episodes of TV.
Shouting at the Screen now has an Instagram and email list that you should sign up for. Yes you are currently reading this via my email list but this is a more targeted list that is going to be used for the soul purpose of promoting that show to people
And don’t forget to listen to this season of The Almanac of Rap! We’ve had some great guests and fun interviews and if Youtube isn’t your thing it’s still available as audio wherever you get your podcasts from!
NEWS
First off, RIP Clark Kent and KA and Fatman Scoop and so many others that have left us recently.
Megan Thee Stallion dropped a new album and GloRilla dropped one last week. Cash Cobain built a microsite that lets you make a custom version of his Problem Remix. The song originally had like 10 features and you can select who you want on it and it kicks out an mp3. Futuristic shit!
Beyonce popped out to endorse Kamala Harris which was a big deal because celebrity endorsements blah blah blah… look, I need yall to vote for Kamala and that’s that on that. Please don’t let that man get another term.
GQ put out an article that attempts to predict the future of hip hop by polling a bunch of media folk.
Speaking of media folk Hearing Things is an exciting new website started by ex-Pitchfork writers. They were profiled by the New York Times and it’s nothing short of inspiring to see people say ‘fuck it we’ll do it ourselves’ when they see a void to be filled.
David Dennis Jr and Justin Tinsley have co-executive directed a documentary about Shyne for Andscape and I am very hype for them but also the documentary.
Marcus J Moore’s book about De La Soul drops on Nov 19th and is up for pre-order now.
VIDEOS
2/3’s of Pac Div dropped a new jam and I can’t help but wonder if more is on the way. You know they cookin…
This is just a cool ass video. The song is dope too but this video was too cool not to post.
Homeboy Sandman is on tour. Catch him if you can.
The Dodgers are in the World Series and Ice Cube took the field to perform Bow Down. That feedback is CRAZY in the video.
I have no idea why this exists but it does and now you know about it too. Feels like it should have been on the Space Jam New Legacy soundtrack but it wasn’t. Shout out to Kurtis Blow tho, he got a heart transplant not too long ago so it’s good to see him active.
ALBUMS
Tyler dropped this album on a Monday because there aren’t really any rules at all anymore. This is a good thing.
Red Hot dropped an album to celebrate the trans community and it features a new Sade song as well as a 28 minute long Andre 3000 song.
Nappy Nina and Swarvy finally dropped their album.
Jason Martin got a fire ass homage to one of my favorite Kurupt songs on here.
Che Noir got a song with Jack Davey on here!
The Revive Big Band album dropped too. I’m really excited for this one.
I just found out that October London dropped an album. FUN FACT: Apparently he’s J-Live’s cousin and we all have a song together called City To City. I think he was going by Sam London back then.
SONGS
Ab-Soul linked up with JID for a joint.
I did not know Lenny Kravitz had an album out but lo and behold he does and this single is a JAM. I skimmed the album and it’s kinda all over the place with a smattering of jams but what do you expect from a pop star?
Freddie Gibbs popped up on the remix to this Alchemist song. I think Freddie’s gonna drop a surprise album on Halloween
Mereba floats on this new jam.
Saba and No ID go back to the well and come back with a banger.
One time I tweeted a joke about an Alessia Cara song and she thought it was finny and replied. I don’t remember the joke but I do think she is dope.
MIKE’s back with some of that hazy melodic shit.
I saw the name Rashid Hadee and damn near broke my wrist tryna copy/paste the link to this.
MOOKIE! That boy on a tear man. Give him his flowers now.
