I just hot home from WNYC’s centennial summer stage celebration and I am a little tipsy but luckily most of this was drafted so the mild impairment won’t stop the jams from reaching your inbox.

Saturday, Sept 14 - This is literally still being planned at the moment but this Saturday from about 4pm to 8pm I will be doing a B2B w/ 6th Sense at Franklin Park. It will be outdoors and there will be a wheel to pick a genre for us to play or something. It’s free. Come by if you’re around

Monday, Sept 18 - For people wondering what happened to Butterboy the answer is that the indefinite hiatus has given birth to Frankenstein’s Baby. It’s at Union Hall now and the line up is wonderful as well as the rotation of hosts. Come out and see us off on our maiden voyage TICKETS

I’m on East Village Radio this Wednesday which means that I won’t be on Twitch. Sorry! (I will get back to streaming regularly soon, my AOR schedule has started colliding with that time slot I may need to move it to be honest)

ALMANAC OF RAP

If you follow me on Instagram you’ve seen me doing man on the street style interview videos. This episode is an extended version of that because sometimes those conversations are too much fun to leave as minute long clips.

NEWS

Kendrick Lamar is headlining the Superbowl in New Orleans and people are mad that it’s not gonna be Lil Wayne. Ice Spice and Cleotrapa are beefing and if you are like ‘uh… okay. who?’ that is probably the right reaction. Rich Homie Quan (34) and Fatman Scoop (56) died. Hip hop has lost a lot over the years.

Pharrell is still an automatic listen for me and I saw that this song was associated with an animated project so I did some clicking around to find out what it was and found out about this:

Which feels like a kinda cool cartoon. The sountrack is shaping up to be pretty interesting (to me) because Pharrell is at the helm.

I don’t know if this is an Ab-Soul single or feature but I am happy it exists.

Where has Wale been? Have I just been under a rock? He just dropped a new joint.

Jungle dropped a new song and if you are a Jungle fan you already know the video is top tier.

The algorithm decided to show me Mnelia and of the three videos I saw this is the one I wanted to share. Plot twist: all three was jamming.

I don’t really know much about this dude but I bumped into his videos and they seem pretty cool. No Ian!

I also stumbled across this really cool short film of Earth, Wind & Fire that is just too good not to share.

ALBUM

(i am biased and mostly only write about stuff i think is worth sharing so if anything is in here it’s an endorsement)

LL’s album dropped and I have played it at least 3 times. It is good in an avant-garde kinda way and LL is RAPPING. Always fun to see the legends push each other.

Laila! (who is also Yasiin Bey’s kid) finally dropped her album and it’s cool. I think she produced some of the stuff on here as well.

New Toro y Moi and it feels more rappery than usual. He switches up styles a lot.

I have not listed to this at all but I like him and I’m sure I’ll like this. The features look nice.

I was gonna post this dudes video but found out it was part of a full album and opted to post that instead. I don’t know much about him but Venus & Serena (the video i saw) is dope.

Conway, Ransom and V Don is catnip for street niggas. This is a sure shot

I don’t remember how I found this but I did and upon skimming it’s pretty good.

There’s a pretty kick ass big band version of BBD’s Poison on here and the rest of the album is pretty kick ass too. It’s only available on Bandcamp

J Cole popped up and rapped very well to remind folk that he can do that.

This is a cool ass Nappy Nina feature.

Rejjie Snow being from Ireland always bugs me out. I like his stuff a lot.

Rome is dope and Daringer’s name makes this very interesting.

Tossed in an extra Mnellia jam just because. She got range!

This video popped up on my Youtube and I was like where do I know this woman from? That neck tattoo is distinct and then it hit me, remember Amina from Love & Hip Hop? Yup!

Here is the mix that I did for last week’s episode of Too Much Rap on East Village Radio. I challenged myself to do a 2 hour set of nothing but rap on vinyl and as aa result got to play some rare Tanya Morgan & Donwill jams. LISTEN
