NEWS

This biggest news in the rap world is that upon cancelling the Fugees tour Pras dropped diss track for Ms. Lauryn Hill.

Tyler the Creator dissed a rapper named Ian. If you don’t know who Ian is, he’s the latest white novelty rapper meme’ing his way to the top.

Okay. I think that’s it.

SHOWS

I think I am DJ’ing a comedy show at Extra Butter in the LES on Thursday from 7-9. That’s the extent of the information I have at the moment.

I put up a newToo Much Rap mix and you can hear it here. This time I played jokes from some of my favorite comedians as interludes during the set. Joyelle Nicole Johnson, Josh Gondelman, Bethany Van Delft and Nore Davis to name a few. It’s a really cool mix.

THE ALMANAC OF RAP

Episode three is out and I got to talk to Lalah Hathaway about (absolutely anything I wanted to which is INSANE because what!?!) vocal runs, vocal signatures, her new album Vantablack and of course her dad. We did actually talk about hip hop too and got some very cool insight into her working with Kendrick Lamar as well as finding out what she is listening to at the moment.

I haven’t really heard this song but based on the look of the video the first thing I thought of was Cowboy Carter.

ADDENDUM

An OG reader replied to the last post asking if I could possibly do a blast from the past type post about some of my own music. I legit don’t think about the stuff I’ve done so this is something that I have never really considered doing but the p(erson)ople have spoken and I’m going to oblige them.

Che Grand’s album Everything’s Good Ugly turned 15 years old this week and here is the song that features Tanya Morgan from that album.

Backstory on the song’s title is that one day I was drunk and took a running start then slid down a hallway towards Che, Von and George yelling “people bowling!” That story never gets old.
