There’s a heatwave headed to NY this week so I wont be anywhere that isn’t air conditioned for the duration. I am also kinda swamped so Mother Nature just might be doing me a favor by keeping me in the house.
I’ll probably be on Twitch Weds from 2-4p but aside from that there are no shows coming up. No comedy shows, no rap shows and no DJ gigs. Things are DRY over here but somehow still super busy cus I’m always up to something!
The podcast is being worked on. I’ve got three interviews lined up this week and we’re in the middle of editing two episodes as well. All this means is that I should be researching the guests or time stamping footage instead of doing this newsletter but honestly I enjoy this newsletter way too much.
So let’s get to the fun part, the music!
NEWS
I have nothing. Zero. Ziltch. Just new releases. I’ll try to have some fun stuff next week.
RANDOM
Zack Fox has teamed up with Gilga (Donald Glover’s company) to release this teaser for his new anime series Yoppaman. If memory serves me correctly the series is based around a group of Waffle House workers who are tasked with protecting the planet. Zack and Donald teaming up for a Waffle House anime is some of the most Atlanta shit ever. Also should be noted that Devin Morrison did the music for the show which makes it even more exciting.
The show’s website is pretty cool too
In other music news aside from The Dogg Pound and Common and Pete Rock there are a few more legacy acts pumping out projects.
The first single from the Q-Tip produced LL Cool J album is finally here and I’ve gotta say that while i wasn’t sitting around waiting on an LL album I am kinda excited that it’s coming out. A Tip produced album will always be exciting, ALWAYS.
I also remember LL saying that he was kinda nervous about putting this album out which reads to me that it’s an art piece more than anything. Especially with Q Tip executive producing it and this song being the first offering. I could be wrong tho, it could just be Headsprung 14 times in a row with this song as a bonus.
Also LL jumping around in the video is kinda hilarious to me. Like Rick and Joe are just cooling, kicking their bars and LL is hitting super hero poses over this mellow ass beat. Iconic.
Memphis Bleek also came back and brought Just Blaze with him. Shout out to Von Pea, I know he has this song on repeat right now and is walking around yelling “Marcy What!?” at his cat.
Here are some more new releases.
VIDEOS
Man Channel Tres be JAMMING.
The Alchemist took time off from sonning producers to hang with his actual son and rap about it. This was a cool video.
Victoria Monet gives Alright the visual treatment and it’s a pretty cool clip. There is a Micheal Jackson tribute baked in that feels a little arbitrary but what do I know. The song is jamming and she looks great.
Kamauu got a new one. He’s always dope.
Action Bronson dropped this Alchemist produced joint from his upcoming album titled ‘Johann Sebastian Bachlava The Doctor’. It’s a pretty cool video.
Remember that time J. Cole dropped an album titled Might Delete Later that had a Kendrick Lamar diss track on it and then actually deleted the song which made the album title a self fulfilling prophecy? Well he dropped a music video for one of the songs from that album.
ALBUMS
I’ve played this album like 4 times and enjoyed it more with each listen.
Anderson teamed up with Knwledge and dropped a summertime breakup album. NxWorries don’t miss so it’s good.
Just found out about this at 9:45am and the newsletter goes out at 10am. Obviously I havent’ heard it yet but I am excited to know it exists!
Homeboy Sandman back with another serving of bars and beats. Can’t wait to listen to this one.
New Problem JasonMartin!?! West West yall!
Like posted a snippet of his verse from this album on IG and that’s how I found out this happened. Haven’t heard the album yet but I do enjoy Alexander Spit’s music.
Don’t remember how I got put on to Kelly Moonstone but I’m happy I know about her. She’s dope and so is this album.
A sound recording can’t fully capture the essence of a live Bilal show but this album does a pretty good job at attempting to. Also having a version of All For Love on streaming is epic
PJ Morton got a new project out. I haven’t heard it but it’s PJ Morton so it should be good
This Jerreau album dropped a few weeks ago but I missed it. Gonna fix that this week!
SINGLES
Lyric Jones and OP! This a MF jam!!
People are saying this is a Drake diss. LMAO.
Tom Misch be JAMMIN
Rae Khalil consistently drops heat.
Vibes!
ADDENDUM
Why does healthcare cost money? It’s so dumb.
Saw Channel Tres here in Raleigh a few years ago during Hopscotch Music Festival. He rolled up to the club in a white stretch limo, that apparently he insisted on in his rider. He also only had about 5 songs at the time so he did most of them twice. The energy was great the first round through, but when he went back and did some of the songs a second time, the roof blew off. One of the best shows I've been to.
