I spent my Memorial Day weekend doing shows in Vermont with Michelle Buteau and that basically meant that I had to assimilate to life as a local. It was a pretty good time filled with some amazing food and great company. There was comedy (obviously) good food, biking, mild hiking and even a farmer’s market. I also wandered into a hip hop show/gathering/jam session and it was the most hyper local shit that I’ve seen in a long time.
This is one of the only photos I took. I know you come here for small batch artisnal content and I’ll do better next time.
Shout out to all the local hip hop scenes. Those small pockets of people who gather to support each other are the lifeblood of this shit!
Between running around the country with Michelle while she preps for Radio City and getting ready for Tanya Morgan’s reunion show two days later, it’s safe to say that I’m stretched kinda thin. I haven’t really had time to flesh out the opening bits of these newsletters but you can expect the randomness to resume in June.
Until then here is a very brief update from the front lines of the rap battle followed by the new music you came here for.

MUSIC NEWS
We are now in a post ‘They Not Like Us’ world and the dust has begun to settle. If you need a battle update on what the ‘Big 3’ has been up to musically since all of this began here goes: J. Cole has verse on Cash Colbain’s song Grippy, Drake is on Sexyy Red’s new mixtape rapping over the BBL Drizzy beat and Kendrick is somewhere doing exactly what he was before all of this started.
If you’d like to hear any of those you’ll have to seek them out yourself because I am not linking them. Sorry! But I do have a few links of things that I think are dope/interesting and you might want to check out.
VIDEOS
Common and Pete Rock are set to drop an album I am very curious about it. Pete is really good at linking up with people and giving them cohesive projects. His albums with Camp Lo are incredible.
ALBUMS
Vince dropped an album and I haven’t heard it BUT he’s super consistent so I have a pretty strong hunch that it’s dope.
Sango dropped an album with some fire features on it.
RM is a Korean rapper. That’s all I know about him to be honest but he’s got features from Little Simz, DOMi & JD BECK & Moses Sumney so this album is probably worth a listen.
Mark de Clive-Lowe is back with Chapter 4 of his Family Gathering series.
I don’t know who Kaicrewsade is but these two songs are interesting.
Terrace dropped a meditative soundscape album. Don’t push play expecting to hear beats and/or lyrics.
SINGLES
*sometimes I think I should just start a playlist for people to subscribe to but then I remember that I only use Spotify and wouldn’t be able to manage updating multiple streaming services so hopefully those of you who aren’t on spotify are taking names of tracks you like!
Catpack simply does not miss.
Kaelin still on fire
If you enjoyed Andre’s album you’ll like this Carlos Nino joint.
1999 WRITE THE FUTURE got Shaq back in the booth and I’m not even mad at the result.
Ravyn Lenae has a cool jam.
MAVI, MESSIAH! and Ovrkast drop off some good old fashioned meat and potatoes hip hop aka bars over beats.
The homie Fat Tony linked back up with with Golden Eye for a lil jammy jam.
Don’t know if I shared this last week but it’s so nice you should probably run it back twice.
That’s it for now. Any questions?
Do the Spotify playlist! I'm TIDAL and use Soundiiz to convert playlists all the time (there are other services, i'm only familiar w/that one).
Shaq's verse sounds like Jadakiss and I never thought I'd write that
lol, RM is the leader of korea's backstreet boys
