I am hoping to be back on Twitch this Wednesday from 2-4pm EST but there is a chance that I won’t be able to do it. I guess that’s what I get for committing to a midweek livestream in the middle of the day lol.
There is still a Tanya Morgan show on June 8th at C’mon Everybody that you probably still need to buy tickets to. I guess I should make sure that I know the words to the songs…
I had loosely planned on writing about how rap songs in honor of holidays until my friend Sean reminded me that it’s been about a calendar year since I won a Webby award.
In looking for a photo to post for this I found this one from their red carpet. This dude interviewed me for a full 2 minutes before he realized that I was not DJ Jazzy Jeff which is both hilarious and sad for a million reasons.
Man time flies when you are figuring out how to leverage winning an award having fun because I promise you I thought I won this thing like two years ago. In the time since winning the award I did go on to drop a second season but since then I haven’t done too much talking about the podcast or it’s third season.
Long story short the podcast is going from from audio only to video, there will still be audio but for all intents and purposes it will be a fully produced video program. (I am super hesitant to say TV show because that conjures all kind of notions and this thing will probably live on Youtube, which to me is tv but to you might not be). This also means that the show is a much bigger production and takes a little longer to produce and is kinda harder to discuss until it’s ready to show you.
There is one episode from the second season that I never got to publish and I won’t say too much about but I will probably release it at some point because it’s too fun of a premise and too good of an interview to let go to waste.
The main reason I haven’t done much talking about this phase of the show is because I am one of those abundance of caution types who would rather show you the thing when it’s done than tell you that it’s coming. Ironically enough I think that telling you it’s coming is important too so yeah it’s coming, it just takes time to cook.
If you want to hear the real time revelation he dropped on me you can listen to that episode of his podcast below. It’s a pretty fun conversation and we cover a lot of ground including the Webby win, us doing more shows together, Kenny vs Drizzy and how much we dislike ‘explainer content’. If you are not tapped into his show just gone head and subscribe to The Questions.
In the mean time if you want to hear some new music I got you covered.
VIDEOS
I like OMA and I think you will too.
This is not a new video but I saw it and wonder how it doesn’t have a million views yet. This should be adapted for a Netflix series or something. I have so many questions! Excellent work by Benjamin Earl Turner.
I had to do a little more digging because this video just kinda busted my head and apparently the Benjamin Earl Turner is an actor on a Starz TV show called Blindspotting which was adapted from a movie by the same name. Both are from Daveed Diggs and Raphael Casal and while the movie looks pretty straight forward the TV show has musical elements.
And speaking of well shot music videos Childish Gambino dropped a video for Little Foot Big Foot and it’s a pretty fun watch.
New Sango? Tight. I don’t know who Dave B is but he’s pretty dope.
Guapdad 4000 has been dropping these freestyles for a minute now and every one has been dope.
Buddy went to Japan and I am kinda jealous.
JSWISS dropped a really dope video for his song with Marcus Strickland. I’m still mad that I didn’t get to make it out to the shows he was doing at BAM because they looked incredible.
It is impossible for me to not enjoy seeing claymation. It immediately reminds me of my childhood. This song is also really dope too.
Another really cool animated video for one of my favorite songs off of the Roc Marciano album.
ALBUMS
Childish Gambino also dropped an album titled Altavista that he described as “the finished version of ‘3.15.20’, the album i put out 4 years ago.”
Ghostface put out an album on Nas’ label and I haven’t gotten around to listening to it yet. If you have what did you think?
Ironically Conway the Machine dropped an album named Slant Face Killah that has nothing to do with Ghostface Killah but is probably really dope.
DJ Harrison and Nigel Hall have remade a bunch of Earth, Wind & Fire songs and if you’re ready to hate on remakes press play before you jump to any conclusions. DJ Harrison is ground zero for very well made dope shit.
This Nubiyan Twist album is not new but it is new to me and I am assuming it will be new to some of you too. New? Old? Whatever.. it’s dope!
I am posting this album without even hearing a lick of the music and it’s because I enjoyed the last project that Yaya Bey put out so I’m pretty sure I’ll feel similar about this one.
This is pretty cool. I don’t know much about it and haven’t fully got to listen to it but I think I will enjoy it so I’m earmarking it here.
SINGLES
Never will be mad at a new Remi Wolf song.
I think Tiron & Ayomari have an album coming but I am just happy they are putting out music.
I will keep foisting PawPaw Rod upon you until he misses and I don’t think he will.
You had me at Kaytranada but Mach-Hommy sealed the deal.
Tom Misch put out a pretty cool jam.
I was debating on wether to post the video to this new Bilal song or the stream but I chose the stream. I hope that’s okay.
Okay, that’s it for now. See you guys next week. Any questions?
New Ghostface was alright. I feel like it started strong but I lost interest last half. Just wasn't feelin the "love" joints.
