We are back on track this week which means that I’ll be back on Twitch this Wednesday from 2-4p EST.
Okay first things first, Brooklynati’s birthday is on May 12 (and if I’m wrong I fully expect Dart Adams to correct me haha. What up Dart!) and not only is there a special edition release on Vinyl Me Please but there is also a show!
That’s right we’ll be doing a show to celebrate the 15 year anniversary of Brooklynati and since we can’t perform that album without all three members this will also double as a reunion show. The show is at C’mon Everybody in Brooklyn on June 8th and you can get tickets here.
I would absolutely love to sell this thing out and based on all the coverage of the live music industry even thinking about doing a show feels like a fools errand but this album deserves it!
Also based on the skit at the end of Bang & Boogie we are kinda obligated to do a 15 year anniversary show…
I don’t remember the last time I performed with Ilyas which is such a crazy thought to have. The last time I performed with Von was probably like 4-5 years ago as well which is again… a CRAZY thought to have. But you know what they say time flies when you are trying to make ends meet and a global pandemic hits having fun. I’m excited that we’ll get to rock out one more time and do a few of our classics.
We’ll have some exclusive merch and a few other surprises that will be revealed as soon as we figure out what they are but in the mean time can you guys just plan to be there? It would be dope to see you!
And speaking of live shows De La Soul just dropped a live album of a performance from 1996 called Live From Tramps and it is crazy. A young Mos Def pops up and runs through a few songs before bringing Common out to do The Bitch In Yoo and a few other of his songs with them. If you’ve never seen De La live I highly recommend watching this footage. Dave was so dope.
I also found this footage of one of MF Doom’s earliest shows which is a pretty fun watch if you are a fan. This show was filmed at Metro in Chicago which is a really cool room.
And while we are on the subject of Chicago a few acts from the city have new music out!
VIDEOS
Chicago’s own Open Mike Eagle, Video Dave and STILL RIFT put out this cool as video for their new single.
Chance is coming out swinging on this this next go round and it’s all sounding pretty exciting. He’s from Chicago too.
Chicago newcomer Saba and Chicago legend No ID continue to do amazing work and this time they’ve sampled Madison McFerrin. I love it when dope people connect.
I’ve known abotu Chenayder for a while now and I’m really excited to see things coming together for her. She is not from Chicago nor is MAVI but this song is a jam.
Kendrick finally responded… i did NOT expect that. It was well worth the wait too. SHEESH

Man, I was just thinking about how it's been 15 years since my honeymoon in Japan, and then I remembered that I picked up Brooklynati while I was out there! It was at the Tower Records in Shibuya.
I'm definitely due for a re-listen of the whole thing. "Plan B" came up randomly for me on Spotify a few weeks ago.
